mortemscintilla: (Hei - Trees)
[ The outburst doesn't exactly help Mako's case. If anything it curls a threadlike snake of cruel interest through Hei's chest. The observer in him always feeds most heartily on human drama, and is no more tightly tethered to morality than the average Contractor's might be. He's aware of how difficult the situation is for Mako. But he's also aware that half the boy's discomfort stems from how blithe Korra is being about everything. He's still holding onto ideas about love that are just a bit naive. Or maybe it is his ideas about Korra that are naive. Absolute. He's put her on a pedestal. ]

[ He really doesn't know her anymore. ]

[ Hei doesn't detach from Korra. Instead he palms the arc of her neck, the curve of her cheek. Strokes his fingers through the tumbled waves of her hair, which almost seem to crackle with banked heat. It's an idle gesture, like petting a fuzzy kitten. But the message is implicit: Your loss. If the boy had played his cards right, been less ambivalent about snatching what he wanted, this might've been him. ]

[ (It might still be, if Korra leaves the City and returns to her homeworld. But a kernel of cynical perception in Hei doubts it'll last.) ]

[ There's a beat, before he remarks, almost offhand, ]

Didn't peg you for a voyeur. But if that's what blows your dress up...

[ Then this is the best show you'll never have to buy tickets for. ]
